Every person who trusts in Christ is related to Christ and to every other believer in Christ. The Bible describes a relationship that is even closer than family, using the physical body and its members as an analogy. “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?” (1 Corinthians 12:12-22)
Prospect Avenue Baptist Church is theologically and culturally conservative.
Our beliefs derive from the foundational premise that the Bible is inspired by God (each word and every portion), that it should be interpreted in a normal fashion, i.e., literally and with regard for the historical and grammatical context, and that the Bible, properly understood, is the authority of our life. God speaks to every area of life through His Scriptures. It is up to us then to learn His Word and apply His truth.
It is in the Bible that we learn that as sinners, each of us stands condemned by a holy and just God, and that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all people everywhere. Through faith in Christ's sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection people may be rescued from hell, forgiven of all sin, cleansed from all unrighteousness, given a new purpose in this life and the promise of heaven in the next.
